Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice

Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice

Junior Sisk & Ramblers ChoiceFrom the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia comes one of bluegrass music’s most honest voices in the genre’s history, Junior Sisk. Over the years, his haunting, almost lonesome vocals have earned him the devotion of countless traditional bluegrass fans from all over the world. His songwriting talents helped the Lonesome River Band make their ascent into bluegrass stardom in the early 1990’s and then he became a member of Wyatt Rice & Santa Cruz and ultimately Blueridge, again reaching new audiences that would eventually follow him on his own musical path.

In 1998, Sisk formed Ramblers Choice and together they recorded and released their first solo project titled Sounds Of The Mountains and also contributed to the award winning The Stanley Gospel Tradition. Nominated numerous times for Male Vocalist of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) and Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America (SPBGMA), Junior Sisk is at the top of his game and has surrounded himself with a top notch band of musicians including Jason Tomlin on bass and vocals; Chris Davis on mandolin and vocals; Billy Hawks on fiddle and vocals; and Jason Davis on banjo and vocals.

Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice are enjoying great success with their latest Rebel Records CD, “The Heart Of A Song.” Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice received SPBGMA’s Album of the Year Award for “The Heart Of A Song“. Junior also received the Contemporary Male Vocalist of the Year Honor for 2013. “A Far Cry from Lester and Earl“ was named SPBGMA’s 2013 Song of the Year.

The Whites were recognized at the International Bluegrass Music Association’s (IBMA) Awards Show in 2001, where they won two awards including the well-respected ‘Album of the Year’ honor. In November of 2001,

The Whites

The Whites were recognized at the 35thAnnual Country Music Association (CMA) Awards in the highly esteemed ‘Album of the Year’ category.  Their involvement in the film and soundtrack brought further acclaim the following year, including the highest industry honor achievable – a GRAMMY Award – in the revered ‘Album of the Year’ category; as well as the ‘Album of the Year’ nod from the Academy of Country Music (ACM).  Along with all the industry accolades, The Whites made numerous appearances in promotion of O Brother, including their involvement in the first 18-city ‘Down from the Mountain’ tour, a stop at David Letterman’s “Late Show” with fellow O Brother artist, Dr. Ralph Stanley, and a featured spot on the follow up tours – the 40 plus city ‘Down from the Mountain’ summer tour in 2002 and the ‘Great High Mountain’ tour in the summer of 2004.

In 2007, after years of blending their voices from the living room to the stage, The Whites teamed up with Ricky Skaggs on Salt of the Earth, their first collaborative effort, which earned them a Grammy Award for Best Southern, Country, or Bluegrass Gospel Album and a Dove Award for Bluegrass Recorded Album of the Year.  Buck, Sharon, Cheryl, and Ricky share lead vocals with Skaggs’ award winning band Kentucky Thunder laying the foundation for their tight family harmony.  Traditional hymns, a few familiar favorites, and brand new treasures flow throughout the album providing an intimate look into the heart of one of music’s most beloved families.

During this time period Raymond introduced Cody to Jimmy Martin. That is when Cody’s love for traditional music grew. Jimmy and Cody became friends and they had many, many great times talking about bluegrass music.  In 2006, at age 21, Cody bought the band Pine Mountain Railroad and reformed the group. He has brought together some of the finest singers in bluegrass. Cody, Jerry Cole, and Bryan Turner make up the bands vocal trio. Bluegrass Unlimted Magazine says: “They have everything you could ask for, but their vocals are truly something rare!”

Volume Five

Volume FiveVolume Five is an exciting new band, and are blazing their own red-hot trail on the bluegrass scene.  This group of talented performers consists of Glen Harrell (fiddle & vocals), Patton Wages (banjo & vocals), Chris Williamson (bass & vocals), Jesse Daniel (mandolin & vocals), and Jeff Partin (dobro, guitar & vocals).

Don’t be surprised if these guys are familiar to the festival attendees, as each member of Volume Five has held tenure with a national touring band.  Playing with such well known acts as Marty Raybon and Full Circle, The Anita Fisher Band, Randy Kohrs and The Lites, The Larry Stephenson Band, and David Davis and The Warrior River Boys has helped each member of Volume Five hone his craft to perfection, while at the same time given each member the stage experience needed to entertain just about any crowd.  The band started getting together casually at the beginning of 2008, and after a few short jam sessions, it was apparent that this band had something unique to offer.

While Volume Five is a traditional band, their soulful singing, dead-on harmonies, and precision picking set them apart from other bands of this style.  They have received critical acclaim for their first project, Down In A Cell; and hope that you will enjoy their efforts on their second project “Children of the Mountains” which has been climbing up the charts since it was released. Nothin’ Fancy

Nothin' FancySPBGMA’s 2009 Entertaining Group of the Year! From the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, comes one of the most entertaining bands in the bluegrass genre, Nothin’ Fancy. As a matter of fact, they won SPBGMA’s award for Entertaining Group of the Year two years in a row!

Nothin’ Fancy was formed as a bluegrass band in 1994 to compete in the East Coast Bluegrass Championship in Crimora, Virginia.  After winning their auspicious debut, they have grown in popularity, released 8 full length albums and one CD single, played the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, the Lincoln Center in New York City, and the Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia.  They have successfully hosted their own Nothin’ Fancy Bluegrass Festival every year since 2001 in Buena Vista Virginia.

Their relentless touring schedule of over 140 dates per year has earned them one of the most loyal fan bases in all of bluegrass music.  They are loved by festival-goers and bluegrass fans from the East to West Coast.

In 2002 Nothin’ Fancy signed with Pinecastle Records, and quickly released their debut recording for the label entitled “Once Upon A Road.”  This album earned them a showcase at the IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) Convention in October 2002 and a nomination for the IBMA Emerging Artist of the Year Award.  Their second release from Pinecastle, “Reflections,” received innumerable accolades and proved that they are one of the new powerhouses in the genre.  Their 3rd Pinecastle project, “Album #7” continues to receive rave reviews from disc jockeys and fans alike.  Listening to the request of fans, Nothin’ Fancy has just released their first gospel CD, “Lord Bless This House.”  This album captures Nothin’ Fancy’s distinguished playing, vocal harmony, spirituality, and friendly charisma.

In 2009 and 2008, SPBMGA (Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America) honored Nothin’ Fancy with the prestigious “Entertaining Group Of The Year” award.  The band was also nominated for SPBGMA’s Vocal Group of the Year and each band member was nominated for individual awards as well. Their strong vocals, powerful instrumentation, and energetic stage presence, along with their friendly down-to-earth charm keeps people coming back for more.  Nothin’ Fancy is not just carrying on the tradition of bluegrass music; they are contributing to the creation of a new tradition within the acoustic music genre.

Hartley Family

The Hartley FamilyThe Hartley Family is a seven-member bluegrass band that combines traditional, gospel, and original/modern bluegrass with storytelling. They have narrowly escaped knocking each other senseless in high-powered moves around the central microphone for five years now, and have left people laughing at bluegrass festivals, churches, state parks, schools, and special events from LA to MN to NY. Their goal is to honor God and bring joy to people! Watching the family members (from parents to the smallest kid) perform encourages both young and old to learn how to play their own instruments.
